About the Lunch & Learn Series

The FirstSTAGES Nurtured Feeding Approach™ Lunch & Learn Case Series offers a rare look inside real infant and toddler feeding cases, walking clinicians step-by-step from assessment through discharge using a structured, evidence-informed framework.   Across focused 1-hour sessions, you’ll learn how to think through feeding cases, not just what to try.   Each case demonstrates root-cause analysis and differential reasoning, showing how to interpret gain/day, kcal/kg/day, and feeding patterns to distinguish true feeding pathology from pattern-driven symptoms, set realistic expectations, and alleviate parental fear.   This is not a checklist or protocol - it’s a way of thinking that transforms how you assess, intervene, and advocate in feeding therapy.

How the Nurtured Feeding Approach™ is different

Centers the feeding relationship, supporting connection, trust, and parent–child attunement  Prioritizes root-cause analysis and differential diagnosis over symptom management  Uses data—not percentiles alone—to guide clinical decisions  Focuses on first-step interventions that restore regulation and feeding skill development  Avoids premature escalation to calorie concentration, reflux medication, and procedures

Clinical Topics Illustrated

Feeding aversion and dysregulation  Poor weight gain and growth concerns  Allergens and elimination trials  Back-to-breast transitions  Tongue-tie considerations within a full differential  Reflux differentials and medication avoidance  Transition to solids and early feeding skill development  Progression from liquid-only diets to chewing

Important Note - Scope & Tools

Case-Based Application!  This series applies and reinforces the Nurtured Feeding Approach™ through real clinical cases.  It strengthens learning for past participants and offers a structured introduction for those new to the framework, without replacing the full course.

Calculator Demonstration Only

The FirstSTAGES Feeding Calculator is a proprietary clinical tool and is not included with this case series.  It automates gain/day and kcal/kg/day including fortification analysis to support realistic, evidence-informed decisions that often differ from volume-driven guides.

Calculator Access

Access to the FirstSTAGES Feeding Calculator is available only with: Purchase of the full Nurtured Feeding Approach™ course and/or Mentoring package.

Learning Objective #1

Demonstrate how to use the FirstSTAGES Age & Evidence-based guide and Feeding Calculator framework to evaluate whether feeding patterns (frequency, duration, nipple flow, gain/day, and intake per kilogram) are typical or atypical for infants and toddlers. Note: Calculator use is demonstrated; access is included only with the full course or mentoring.

Learning Objective #2

Apply guided first-step intervention principles of the Nurtured Feeding Approach™ to move efficiently from assessment to intervention, prioritizing regulation, relationship, and skill development rather than volume-driven or fear-based strategies.

Learning Objective #3

See how the Nurtured Feeding Approach™ methods are used to analyze real cases, identify true root causes and select appropriate first and next steps to intervention, while avoiding unnecessary procedures, reflux medications, and excessive fortification.

Meet Your Instructor

With over 25 years of experience, Ann Marie Presberg-Martinez is a nationally recognized pediatric feeding specialist dedicated to helping infants, toddlers, and older children overcome complex feeding challenges with compassion and expertise. She is the founder of FirstSTAGES Feeding Specialists and creator of the Nurtured Feeding Approach™, a responsive, holistic method that restores reciprocal trust between parent and child and strengthens the feeding relationship. She also developed the FirstSTAGES Age & Evidence-Based Guide and the FirstSTAGES Feeding Calculator—tools that advance evidence-based practice by analyzing feeding patterns, flow rate, weight gain, and intake by age and weight. Her clinical background spans NICU, hospital care, Early Intervention, and private practice. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Marquette University and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Gallaudet University. She believes that when we allow the child to teach us the “why” behind their feeding difficulties, we achieve effective, individualized intervention and restore peaceful, connected feeding times for families. Outside of her professional work, Ann Marie treasures life with her husband and the adventures that come with raising five lively boys.
